Located in western Transylvania County is the mountain town of Sapphire, NC. The western portion of Sapphire also extends into Jackson County. Bordered by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Nantahala National Forest, the area provides breathtaking views and scenic natural surroundings.
Single-family homes are always available due to the constant growth in the area, many with waterfall and mountain views. It´s also commonplace for properties to include streams. The winter season in Sapphire provides for fun skiing and snowboarding at the Sapphire Valley Ski slopes. This four-season resort features ski runs for the intermediate and experienced during the winter months, and year round lodging high up in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The resort offers recreation in way of miniature golf, pools, saunas, fitness centers and much more. A recent addition is the Community Center, a 10,000 sq. ft. facility featuring amenities such as activity, meeting and banquet rooms, a gift shop and nature center.
Many come to Sapphire to simply take in the scenic, natural surroundings. The Blue Ridge Chain encompasses the Smoky Mountains, which are protected by the National Forests of Pisgah and the well-known Nantahla National Forest. 400-year old hardwood forests and spectacular views from areas such as Whitewater Falls await hikers. Numerous cascading waterfalls feed into local rivers, favorite spots for whitewater rafting and kayak enthusiasts. Campers are also welcome to enjoy the full-featured campgrounds of the Nantahla National Forest. Biking, horseback riding, boating and fishing are all welcome on the grounds.
